The head coach duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick is widely regarded as one of the best ever to set foot on the football field. In the twenty or more years together, the duo won six Super Bowls and tied the Pittsburgh Steelers for most national championships in the history of the game.

The coaching style of Bill Belichick is studied everywhere in sports with no connection to football. The calculated risks and strict personality were able to create a dynasty in New England unmatched by the ones before and, as of writing, the ones after. Despite their glory and success together, they said their goodbyes when Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after prolonged tension between the two, among other reasons.

In the years past, Brady has joined FOX News as a media personality while increasing his investments across multiple sports, including the National Football League. On the other hand, Belichick signed with the UNC Tar Heels to rejuvenate their football programme. Furthermore, he also recently published a controversial book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football, sharing his experiences and life as an NFL coach.

Apart from the book, Belichick has also started to attend more events and talks where he has opened up more about several incidents, sharing valuable anecdotes about the same. In a recent Pivot podcast by Ryan Clark, Belichick detailed a crucial aspect of his coaching style – accountability and fairness.

Belichick noted that he pointed out and called out Tom Brady in film sessions, ensuring everyone is held to the same standard. He also added that calling out Brady enabled players to see him in the same light. Moreover, it also created a window for all players to equally hold responsibility for the loss or weak win.

“If I didn’t point him out, then everybody walks out there feeling like they got yelled at except for him… When I could make points to Tom, then Tom could say, ‘Hey fellas, he got after me too,’”

For the past several years, people have wondered what is behind Tom Brady’s success. Is it his drive or is it some other aspect? What went right for Brady that skipped over the likes of Joe Montana, Brett Favre, and many others?

In his latest podcast, Belichick noted three points. These points, as claimed by Belichick, were used by Brady to attain success on the field.

  • Negative plays were avoided at any cost.
  • More Individuality and participation by letting the receivers and RBs make more plays by getting the ball through to them.
  • On-field quick decision making amid the heavy pressure by a great visualisation of the field.

Tom Brady has long left the field. However, his legacy lives on as players compete to become him and better his record. It’s no easy task, considering how competitive the league has become in the past few years.
