It has been 12 years since the great Oscar De La Hoya stepped into a boxing ring. The American professional boxer who retired with an impressive record of 39-6 in his professional boxing career, recently expressed his desire to fight the unbeaten and one of his greatest rivals Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, the ‘Golden Boy of Boxing’ also revealed that he was interested in fighting another boxing great, Canelo Alvarez, who recently dominated Callum Smith, which saw him successfully defend his titles.

Oscar De La Hoya was quoted as saying, “I’ve always prided myself in fighting the very best, and why go after the second-best?. Why not go after the guy that beat [Canelo]? Why not go after [Floyd] Mayweather, for instance, in a revenge fight? That’s something that’s very intriguing. We’ll see how I feel, and then we’ll take it from there.” [via BJPenn.com]

He further added, “I would definitely think about [fighting Canelo]. But my eye is on a bigger prize. For any fight that you might have lost or that was close or whatever, it’s always gonna be a thorn. I strongly feel that with the way I’m feeling and the way I’ve been training and the way things are unfolding, it could be very interesting.” [via BJPenn.com]

De La Hoya faced Floyd Mayweather in the 43rd fight of his career, which he eventually lost via. split decision. With boxing greats like Mike Tyson, returning to the sport, it will be no surprise if De La Hoya jumps in the ‘return-train’ as well. Floyd Mayweather, on the other hand is currently scheduled to face Logan Paul in an exhibition bout on the 20th of February, next year.
