“Why Not? ” Nick Diaz’s title campaign gets surprising support from Kamaru Usman’s manager

Ali Abdelaziz has expressed interest in a bout between Nick Diaz and his client Usman

Nick Diaz’s recent demand for a title shot at 38 while he can, according to himself “make it happen” has been received with equal parts humor and equal parts of dismissal by the MMA Community. However, Kamaru Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz thinks otherwise.

Diaz, a former strike force champion and UFC title challenger, made his return to the ring after a long lay-off that started due to a suspension for testing positive for Marijuana after his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 183. Diaz returned to face former opponent Robbie Lawler who he had finished in the first round of their first fight.

While the return was met with much hype, mostly due to an experimental weight cut photo shared by Diaz, the matchup itself was anything but a far cry from his glory days. Diaz who was throwing a high volume of punches, and landing most of them seemed to have no effect on Lawler. Lawler’s returns however visibly shook Nate Diaz, a sight that was very rarely seen in his pre-2015 fight career. The bout ended in round 3 when Diaz hit the canvas and refused to engage with Lawler calling it, quits

Nick Diaz came in above the welterweight limit in his previous bout causing the bout to be moved up to middleweight on short notice

Many fans pointed out that Nick looked as though he was fighting in “slow-motion” and should probably give fighting a break forever, Diaz thinks otherwise. At a recent meet and greet, Diaz was asked by a TMZ reporter about a possible return to the Octagon, Diaz revealed he was targeted for late 2022, and he had one hint, “I’d rather fight for the title” claiming anything else is not exciting for him to get back into training.

While most fans dismissed this as a pipe dream, Ali Abdelaziz has taken it more seriously than others. Former MMA fighter, Josh Thompson posted a photo of him along with the elder Diaz on Twitter with the caption, “Would love to see Nick Diaz return for one last title shot”  To this, the head of Dominance MMA management quote tweeted “Why Not?”

Ali Abdelaziz has a big say on who his fighters face off against and has been looking for a big-money fight that would set up Kamaru Usman as he enters the final stage of his career. While previously this had been a boxing bout against Canelo, an MMA royalty who has lost in spark is a rather low-risk, high reward bout for the Welterweight Champion.’

Do you think this bout ever takes place before either one calls it quits?
