Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers fans don’t see eye to eye being divisional rivals. On Sunday, Justin Herbert’s Chargers secured a 34-20 win over the hosts at Allegiant Stadium so the tension was already high among the fans and only needed a slight spark to start a brawl.

When KTNV reporter Nick Walters was collecting fan reactions to the Raiders’ loss, a fight broke out right behind them. A Chargers fan initiated the brawl by smacking a left hook at a Raiders fan. The police managed to break the fight up but it took them a little while before the situation returned to normalcy.

Walters’ tweet summed up the situation perfectly.

Would it really be a Raiders-Chargers rivalry game without a brawl breaking out behind you during a fan interview?

Nick Walters posted a video of the fight with the caption.

To realize how fierce the Chargers-Raiders fans can be, one only needs to revisit the ugly brawl that took place in week one at SoFi Stadium. The New York Post reported that a massive fight broke out leaving two individuals bloodied.

Even in October 2023, a fan wearing a Justin Herbert jersey and a Raiders fan wearing a Howie Long jersey viciously fought in the stands. Few others tried their best to stop the fight but the stadium police had stepped in to end the fight. Although the reason behind the UFC-style fight was never made public.

Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh brought the good times back for the Chargers fans

Fans will always be passionate about the teams they support and they would want to see them qualify for the playoffs every year. The Chargers fans had to wait three years before Herbert led them to postseason football in 2022 but crashed out in the wild-card round.

However, the mood in LA is much different right now compared to three years ago. Since taking over as head coach, Jim Harbaugh instilled a winning culture at the franchise and confidence which they lacked the last few seasons. Under his leadership, Herbert threw 332 completions for 3870 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just 3 interceptions along with 6 rushing touchdowns in 17 games despite not having a single star wide receiver in the team after veteran Keenan Allen left to join the Chicago Bears.

The Chargers lucked out on their rookie acquisitions. First-year receiver Ladd McConkey caught 82 passes for 1149 yards and scored 7 touchdowns, while former first-round pick Quinten Johnston ended the season on a high by racking up 200+ scrimmage yards against the Raiders after struggling all year. It’s a welcoming sight for the Chargers fans to see Johnson finally making a breakthrough.

Herbert would require both McConkey and Johnston in top form when they face the Houston Texans on Saturday in the wild card round for a place in the divisional round. The Texans won the AFC South with a 10-7 record and placed as the fourth seed, ahead of the Chargers, who finished second in the AFC West behind the top seed, the 15-2 Kansas City Chiefs, who have a bye.
