Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks were once seen as legitimate NBA title contenders. But as the Finals unfold, the Knicks are watching from the sidelines, having seen their season end in the Eastern Conference Finals.
In the immediate aftermath, head coach Tom Thibodeau was let go. Many wondered why the Knicks would send a coach who revitalized the franchise after spending years in basketball purgatory. He did commit mistakes, but it was not as if the franchise had better options available to replace him.
That soon became the trend over the past week and a half. They apparently approached five teams to interview their respective head coaches, but were denied permission. This caused a furor, and some believe the Knicks do not have a plan. However, Gilbert Arenas does not believe so.
You offer the job to people that already got jobs knowing what their answer. You are pretending for the world that you are looking for a job, and then you go settle for Rick (Brunson). ‘We couldn’t find nobody, everybody rejecting the job, we are just going to give it here to Rick.’ Y’all slick.
Gilbert Arenas said on Gil’s Arena
Gilbert Arenas suggested that the New York Knicks are intentionally offering coaching positions to NBA coaches who are already employed elsewhere, knowing they'll likely decline, as a strategy to justify appointing Rick Brunson, Jalen Brunson's father, to the role. pic.twitter.com/0YOpE3fDNS

The three-time All-Star came up with this theory based on how the Knicks’ coaching search has transpired. He said that it was weird that the franchise did not approach any of the free agent coaches or any of the assistants on other teams. Instead, they went after people who were already in good situations.
That led him to believe that the franchise is trying to trick everyone into believing they are not getting their desired candidate. That is when they will hand it over to Rick Brunson, the Knicks’ assistant and father of Jalen Brunson.
Rick Brunson as Knicks HC is a possibility if one follows their hierarchy
Jalen Brunson‘s decision to sign with the New York Knicks in free agency dumbfounded many. However, the franchise signed his father, Rick Brunson, as an assistant coach a short while before his son hit free agency. It seemed as if the move was premeditated.

Then, in this past offseason, the moves made by the franchise seemed to center around Brunson and his style of play. In came fellow Villanova Wildcat teammate Mikal Bridges, for whom the Knicks traded five first-round picks.
All of this seemed to indicate that the franchise was building the team around their star guard. That also saw Julius Randle leave the team in a trade, which suggested he was not interested in yielding to the Villanova boys.
Last but not least, the structure of the New York Knicks makes it evident that the team is built for the Brunsons. President Leon Rose brought in William Wesley to help him run the Knicks. Then it was Wesley who brought in his old friend Rick Brunson to become an assistant. Gilbert Arenas’ theory might hold some water after all.
Josh Hart wants fans to lay off criticisms against former Knicks coach
The Rick Brunson theory aside, the New York Knicks are on the spot as they are running out of options to hire their next head coach. At the same time, many of their passionate fans are turning on former head coach Tom Thibodeau for somehow causing this situation, but star player Josh Hart wants this to stop.
All yall talking trash about Thibs lame as hell. A different direction was taken but yall should be appreciative for what he did for the team and organization.

The 30-year-old wants fans and members of the media to stop criticizing Thibodeau for this mess, as he was expected to continue in the job. He might have made some mistakes concerning the rotation, however, that is not the sole reason for their NBA title dreams to end prematurely.
