As the days go by, the Dallas Cowboys continue to find themselves amid a storm. A storm in which fans and the media are constantly asking when owner Jerry Jones will end up giving star quarterback Dak Prescott a new contract. But since nothing has yet come to the forefront, wild theories are floating around.

Host of ESPN’s morning show Get Up, Mike Greenberg was discussing the state of affairs of the Cowboys. When his guests were talking about Deion Sanders possibly being the head coach for the Cowboys down the line, Greenberg added a layer of his own to the discussion.

I'm envisioning a season in which Jerry Jones seems relatively satisfied to let Mike McCarthy have a one and done situation. To let Dak Prescott have a one and done situation. I'm picturing the ultimate marketer, the ultimate salesman, the ultimate drama, which is Jerry Jones. And I'm picturing him imagining Deion and Shedeur Sanders as his coach and quarterback next year.

Mike Greenberg came up with this theory after the Colorado Buffaloes head coach openly talked about his appreciation for Jerry Jones. Add to that, Jones’ reluctance to give his players’ new contracts.

Greenberg could not be wrong to think that in an ideal world, Jerry Jones would prefer to hire his former favorite to coach his team. After all, Sanders has shown that he holds players accountable. Something that is a tough task in today’s NFL.

But trying to draft Shedeur Sanders is an entirely different ballgame. The quarterback will likely go high up in the draft next year. For that to happen, the Dallas Cowboys will have to trade multiple assets to get a top pick. Not an easy task, considering teams know their plans will demand a lot of compensation.

Dak Prescott’s future remains a doubt

That compensation could be centered around Dak Prescott. For one, a team with a top pick will most likely need a good quarterback. Prescott will fill an immediate need. Yes, age is not on his side. But at least he can give a good few years to any team trading for him while they add other assets. The team will also receive draft compensation, making it a win-win.

Detroit Lions used a similar situation to turn their fortunes around. Therefore, the burning question is about Dak Prescott’s future. It seems, that even if one disregards Mike Greenberg’s intriguing theory, the writing is on the wall. He might get a contract, but Jones will likely build in an exit strategy one or two years down the line.

So, all in all, it seems Dak Prescott will not be a Cowboy for long. If not Shedeur Sanders, they have another quarterback in their eyes who for whom they traded just a fourth-round pick. In any situation, Jerry Jones has a backup plan, at least it seems like.
