The Kansas City Chiefs have established themselves as a dynasty by winning two back-to-back Super Bowl trophies led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes. And now, as they prepare for the third consecutive Super Bowl, discussions surrounding their potential status as the greatest NFL dynasty of all time have intensified. But if Chris Russo were to be asked, he doesn’t seem to be convinced that the Chiefs’ achievement would elevate above the legendary New England Patriots.

In the latest episode of ESPN’s First Take, Mad Dog Russo weighed in on the debate of whether Mahomes can make the Chiefs NFL’s greatest-ever dynasty by achieving the historic three-peat. He expressed skepticism, highlighting what constitutes a true dynasty in the NFL.

I don’t think so myself and I don’t love the game because we’ve seen his game two years ago. [Kansas City] Chiefs’ team is about the quarterback, I mean Pittsburgh [Steelers] have 9 Hall of Famers on it. Green Bay [Packers] have 9-10 Hall of Famers on it. This Chiefs team has Kelce as a Hall of Famer, [Chris] Jones is probably a Hall of Famer and Mahomes is a Hall of Famer. This is about the quarterback… and it’s so much about him more so than about the team. So from that standpoint, I don’t look at it as the greatest dynasty in the history of Pro Football.

Chris Russo asserted

While the elite quarterback is widely regarded as one of the greatest players at his position of all time, Russo argued that the greatest dynasty should encompass more than an exceptional quarterback. It is worth noting that the Patriots with six Super Bowl trophies, nine AFC titles, 17 division titles, and 11 Pro Football Hall of Famer constitute the greatest NFL dynasty.

Can Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs overcome Patriots’ two-decade legacy of greatest dynasty?

Although there are discussions that the Chiefs may overpower the Patriots’ legacy, Insider Tom E. Curran stated that New England’s legacy was established with a two-decade of hard work and consistency. Even if Kansas City defeats the Philadelphia Eagles to achieve the three-peat, their success is relatively new and so is their consistency.

To me, I look at the Patriots dynasty and you guys might be sweating the Chiefs, but I’m not really as a Patriots observer over the entirety of this dynasty. The bar is set so high that if you objectively look at it, you still have to be looking at Everest compared to Mount Washington. You lop another Mount Washington on top of it, then you get the Everest.

Having said that, Curran advocated for Mahomes’ name to certainly be in the conversation of greatest of all time. The success he has achieved in seven years is truly phenomenal and if he continues with this pace, he may actually dethrone the seven-time Super Bowl champion.
