After how things ended for Aaron Rodgers last season, the star quarterback is avoiding injury as much as possible. That’s why he decided to take a step back in the preseason while preparing for a solid comeback next month.
This led to the ultimate question of whether the New York Jets will have the starting quarterback for the finale against the New York Giants. When asked about it after Saturday’s preseason game, head coach Robert Saleh disappointed fans by refusing to address questions about the quarterback’s presence in the preseason finale game. Interestingly, the situation with Rodgers isn’t very different as well.
You never know. I'm not sure. I mean, I feel like Saleh already ruled me out a few weeks ago, but if I beg him, maybe I'll get to be out there.Aaron Rodgers told the reporters
The last time Saleh discussed the quarterback’s presence in the preseason in late July, he revealed being extra cautious with the signal-caller as his “instincts” weren’t allowing taking any kind of risk, especially when the 2024 season is crucial for both his and Rodgers’ future in New York.
Since last season’s week 1 match against the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers hasn’t played a single game. Despite being a seasoned quarterback, his participation in preseason games has always been uncertain. He never played when he was in Green Bay, however, he broke the tradition last season in New York.
Aaron Rodgers focuses on Week 1 showdown against 49ers
Even though the veteran quarterback isn’t seen on the football field for the preseason games, he has been a part of every discussion and strategy alongside team coordinators and General Manager Joe Douglas. Saleh assured fans that they were making the best decision for the team.
No matter what happens in the preseason finale, Rodgers’ priority is the week 1 game against the team that passed him over in the 2005 Draft and picked Alex Smith. With a mere 23 days remaining for the match, he is poised for a do-over against the San Francisco 49ers.

Apart from Rodgers, backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor also didn’t play the preseason game on Saturday. The Jets head coach reasoned the absence by stating he wanted to test the other quarterbacks on the roster and thus, he gave chances to rookie Andrew Peasley and UFL MVP Adrian Martinez.
