Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj confirmed that teammate Jasprit Bumrah will play the fourth Test against England, at Old Trafford in Manchester. The news regarding Bumrah’s availability for the penultimate encounter provides clarity for India’s starting XI amidst their ongoing injury crisis.
Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded the Indian pace attack in the first innings of the third Test at Lord’s, picking up his second five-wicket haul of the series. However, his efforts were not enough, as the Men in Blue suffered a heartbreaking 22-run defeat. India failed to chase a target of 193 runs in the final innings, despite a heroic display from the tail-enders, including Bumrah, who defended well for around nine overs.
Despite the defeat, the ICC World No. 1 ranked Test bowler remains the most vital cog in the Indian pace attack. In the two matches he has played so far, Jasprit Bumrah has picked up 12 wickets at an average of 21, second only to Mohammed Siraj (13). Previously, Bumrah and the team management had informed that the 31-year-old would only feature in three of the five Tests in England to manage his workload.
Bumrah has been advised to significantly reduce his workload to remain fit and to address persistent injury issues he has faced over the past few years. He only returned to action in April this year, after being sidelined for over three months due to a back injury suffered during the final Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This injury also caused him to miss India’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy triumph.
In the ongoing India-England series, Bumrah had already opted out of the Edgbaston Test, and rumors were rife that he might also sit out the fourth Test in Manchester. However, amidst the untimely injury crisis, Bumrah is now set to take the field at Old Trafford, as confirmed by his bowling partner Mohammed Siraj. The 31-year-old was also spotted bowling in the nets on Monday after a long discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir.
He [Jasprit Bumrah] will play. Akash Deep has a groin issue, he bowled today and now physios will see. That’s what I know so far.
Siraj also suggesting that his team needs to bowl in the right areas, despite the changing combinations in every match. Apart from Bumrah, Siraj also commented on Akash Deep’s availability, stating that he has no information about the 28-year-old pacer and that the physios are looking after him after he suffered a groin niggle at Lord’s. Akash Deep is not the only player injured, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has also been ruled out of the fourth Test, while Nitish Kumar Reddy is out for the series with a knee injury.
To provide cover for the injured players, India decided to add 24-year-old Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj to the squad ahead of the fourth Test. Bumrah and Siraj could very well be joined in the attack by Kamboj, who would be making his India debut.
Mohammed Siraj Baffled by Question on Cancelled WCL Match Between Indian and Pakistani Legends
Mohammed Siraj was taken aback, upon being questioned about the cancelled World Championship of Legends (WCL) match between India and Pakistan. The match, scheduled to be played on July 20 in Birmingham, was called off after several former Indian stars declined to participate.

The Indian Legends side withdrew its participation, citing the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the strained relations as reasons. Siraj was asked about this, but the 31-year-old confusingly stated that he was unaware of the situation. Upon being further asked about whether he would play against Pakistan, Siraj shrugged it off, indicating he did not know how to respond.
The 2025 season of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) is currently underway, featuring legend teams from all eight major cricket-playing nations. The Indian Legends side features former players like Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan and many others.
