Will the White Sox tie 1916 Philadelphia Athletics record after historically bad 120th game loss?
Chicago White Sox’s social media admin seems to have given up on trying to post scores anymore as the team is on the verge of making historically unwanted records.

The Chicago White Sox have officially joined the 1962 New York Mets for most losses incurred in modern baseball history. They may even cross the NY record to stand alone in the worst category, or may even join the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics .235 winning percentage record, as the team is currently carrying a .232 score.
It’s a record no team wishes to celebrate and something any MLB organization within that worst category wishes to get surpassed. The White Sox will be playing their last regular season series against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

The Chicago White Sox recorded their iconic 120th loss on Sunday against the San Diego Padres as they lost with a 4-2 record. Currently the players are all hoping to get through the rest of the season games and plan for the future. Even the team’s social media admin seems to have given up on the season.

Many players have admitted that it’s difficult at times to stay positive and keep their wits and humor alive in such a grim situation. Recently, Stephen King also posted on X, addressing the current team situation,
Chicago White Sox fans, I feel your pain. As a fan of those other Sox, I tried to switch my loyalty to Cleveland during one particularly awful season (Butch Hobson, I’m talking about you). I couldn’t do it. Things will get better. They CAN’T get worse.Stephen King on X.

Earlier in August, the White Sox even ended up firing manager Pedro Grifol after the team suffered from a 21-game skid. According to reports, there have been rumors that the team lacked an MLB-caliber plane, lack of analytics, and a routinely empty building, among many others.
Chicago White Sox players react to the current team condition
Chicago White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore commented that “no loss is good”, but the team is trying to put the bad games behind them and get ready for the next series in the regular season. Catcher Korey Lee echoed the sentiment saying, “you’ve got to focus on one day at a time.”

Lee admitted that it’s to maintain a positive attitude always and when asked about the same question about future plans and game records it can sometimes get to the mindset. However, as Gavin Sheets said, one has to find a way to “play and focus on each day and not let the record decide the game.”
There are definitely moments where it starts to creep in, like what’s going to happen today…It’s hard. It’s hard to be in the present in terms of that…It’s part of being professional.Gavin Sheets as per Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
Lee and Miguel Vargas further added that “you’ve got to take some of the good out every day” to keep it moving and take each game by the day. Veteran left fielder Andrew Benintendi said that every loss “suck” but once you lose 120 “it’s easier to brush off”.

Although, it’ll be harder to go through it every single time “that’s where we’re at”. The team will have their final 2024 games against the LA Angels and Detroit Tigers before they get ample time to start rebuilding the team for a fresh start in 2025.
