William Regal had a brief tenure in AEW in 2022 between his work in WWE. He worked in NXT since the brand’s black and gold days. Shortly after quitting the Jacksonville-based promotion, he would once again return to WWE. This led to many tin-foil hat theories on the internet, with people speculating that he only joined the rivaling company to obtain insider information.

William Regal recently expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to work with NXT since 2014. A fan replied to his tweet, calling him out for ‘snaking out’ information from AEW. The wrestling legend clarified his stance on the matter, asserting that he was only there to help out the talent and never attended any production meetings or obtained any information that could be used against the promotion.

Regal revealed that he only joined the company because Bryan Danielson asked him to. The 56-year-old has a strong relationship with the American Dragon that dates back years. The AEW World Champion also credits the wrestling legend for being his professional wrestling teacher. The Blackpool Combat Club is also named after the town where the former King of the Ring winner began his wrestling career.

On December 28th, Regal’s contract with the company expired. Two days later, he announced on his X account that he would be leaving the company. He joined WWE again in January 2023. Since then, he has been helping the company as the Vice-President of Global Talent Development.

William Regal thanks Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and other WWE officials for making NXT into what it is today

The September 24th, 2024, edition of NXT will be the show’s final episode to be aired on the USA Network. From October 1st, the developmental brand will begin airing on CW. WWE already has some major matches planned for the episode, including Giulia challenging Roxanne Perez for the NXT Women’s Championship. To celebrate the end of this era, William Regal looked back at the effort that went into making the show a possibility. Although he is not as heavily involved with NXT at the moment, the show can be defined as his brainchild. NXT started off as a gameshow in 2010. However, WWE officials like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and others pushed for the show to become a one-hour special on the WWE network.

The show switched to more of a developmental brand, showcasing the company’s rookie signees or wrestling veterans who had joined from other companies. Regal called this project the best part of his entire 41-year wrestling career.
