Despite the abundance of wide receivers on the Miami Dolphins roster, the front office tried out for new players, which included veteran Willie Snead. However, on the day of his trial at Miami Gardens, one of his old tweets on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa went viral.

Sneed, a journeyman wideout, was among the few who traveled down south following a troubled stint with the San Francisco 49ers, where he accused the management of not providing him with enough chances. Besides stirring up trouble in the Bay Area, he even called out Tagovailoa, labeling him as soft.

Following the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild card, in which the 25-year-old threw 20 completions for 199 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, Snead wrote a snarky comment on social media.

The Dolphins will be good when Tua stops acting soft.

He did not take the freezing temperatures into account. Tagovailoa wasn’t an isolated case; rather, the majority of the Dolphins players, who were used to playing under the clear skies, struggled massively in the below-freezing temperatures of Kansas City.

Now, half a year later, Tua and Snead have to share a locker room. ESPN’s Adam Schefter via the South Florida Sun Sentinel announced that the Dolphins agreed to sign the Ball State graduate into their practice squad.

Ex-NFC Scout took issue with the Dolphins giving a massive contract to Tua Tagovailoa

After months of speculation and a bit of convincing from head coach Mike McDaniel, owner Stephen Ross agreed to a four-year $212.4 million deal with Tua Tagovailoa.

The 2023 passing yards leader became one of the highest earners not just on the Dolphins roster but also in the entire NFL. However, some skeptics would argue that the Dolphins perhaps overpaid and Tua hasn’t shown enough to deserve such an astronomical salary.

One of them is former Philadelphia Eagles scout John Middlekauff, who, while speaking on Colin Cowherd’s podcast, took issues with Tagovailoa’s extension. In his view, the deal could backfire because of the division the Dolphins play in, which mostly hosts teams that play in cold weather.

In Middlekauff’s view, the Dolphins should have adopted the Daniel Jones approach.

He [Tua Tagovailoa] plays in the division with cold weather teams. I get investing in him… They signed him to a three-year, $100 million deal, and they guaranteed every penny, I kind of get it. But to pay him enormous money, I think, is insane.

In the end, everything rests with Tua and how he performs from here on out. He has weapons like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and possibly Willie Snead for a deep playoff run.
