The San Francisco Giants have finally made a major move in the 2024 offseason. On Saturday, the team agreed on a massive 7-year, $182 million deal for shortstop Willy Adames.
The Dominican international joins the National League West side on a record-breaking deal for the club. His $182 million is now the biggest contract the team has signed any player on since landing Buster Posey, the team’s current president of baseball operations on a $167 million deal.
During the 2024 season, the Milwaukee Brewers received several offers for him. However, the team declined to trade him. Adames went on to hit 32 home runs and collect 112 RBI as he had one of his best seasons in the MLB.
These performances made him a strong candidate for several teams. Teams like the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers were reported to be interested in him. In the end, Adames choose the Giants.
The team had been looking for a shortstop replacement ever since Brandon Crawford left the team. The former Tampa Bay Rays star not only gives them much-needed stability in the shortstop position but also adds some firepower in their offensive lineup.

In his four-year stay with the Brewers, Adames hit a total of 107 home runs and became an instant fan favorite. While losing him might be a major blow for the fans, the team has two potential shortstops – Joey Ortiz and Brice Turang in the waiting. These two stars have five and four years left on club control respectively and can become the team’s number one shortstop going forward.
