Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz will meet seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final on Sunday (July 14). It will be their third meeting at a Grand Slam and the first this season.

Djokovic won their maiden Major meeting in the semifinals at the Roland Garros last year. However, Alcaraz turned the tables in the Wimbledon final the following month, beating the Serbian in five sets to take home the title.

This is the first time in almost a decade that the same two players have reached the Wimbledon final in consecutive years. The last time this happened was in 2014 and 2015 when Djokovic and Roger Federer met in the finals.

Carlos Alcaraz‘s route to a second Wimbledon final has been anything but straightforward. He came into the tournament after being unsuccessful in his title defence at the Queen’s Club Championship.

After a couple of straight-set wins over Mark Lajal and Aleksandar Vukic, the Spaniard passed his first big test against Frances Tiafoe, edging the American in five sets. Following that, he secured wins against Ugo Humbert, Tommy Paul, and Daniil Medvedev to reach the final.

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic has had a far easier ride to the final compared to his opponent. He has lost one set each to Jacob Fearnley and Alexei Popyrin while getting a walkover in his quarterfinal match against Alex de Minaur after the Australian suffered a hip injury during his fourth-round match. He beat Morenzo Musetti in straight sets in the semifinals to make his way to the title clash.

Djokovic has lost only once in 11 years on the Wimbledon Centre Court, which came in the final against Alcaraz last season. A year later, the situation is a little different. The Serbian will be more relaxed and confident heading into this final, considering he was very close to withdrawing from this year’s event after undergoing knee surgery last month.

On the other hand, Alcaraz will be under pressure to win and defend his title. He hasn’t tasted defeat in a Grand Slam final so far in his career, winning all three Grand Slam finals he has played, and that should give him some confidence heading into this crunch clash.
