Carlos Alcaraz has been one of the outstanding players of the season. He has won two titles already and is seeking his third at Wimbledon. The Spaniard is set to face the in-form Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals after he beat Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round.

The 21-year-old is the favorite to win his second Wimbledon title and fourth career Grand Slam. However, he has not been at his dominant best, as seen in the matches against Frances Tiafoe and Ugo Humbert, which could give Paul the chance to cause an upset.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Tommy Paul: Match Preview

Carlos Alcaraz has had a pretty strong year since exiting the Australian Open in the quarterfinals. He won his first title at Indian Wells beating Russian Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the final. However, he couldn’t go the distance in Indian Wells and at the Miami Open.

He played only two clay tournaments this season and won the French Open in a five-set thriller against Alexander Zverev. The 21-year-old began his grass season poorly, losing to Jack Draper in the second round at the Queen’s Club Championship. However, he has dug deep to find some form at Wimbledon, beating Mark Lajal, Aleksandar Vukic, Tiafoe, and Humbert to reach the quarterfinals.

Tommy Paul has had a pretty decent year so far, with the title win at the Dallas Open being one of the highlights. He came close to winning his second title for the season when he finished as the runner-up at Delray Beach, losing to Taylor Fritz in the final. His best run in the clay swing came at the Italian Open where he reached the semifinals, losing 3-6, 7-6 (3), 3-6 to Nicholas Jarry.

In the grass swing, he made a quarterfinal exit at the Libema Open before beating Lorenzo Musetti to the Queen’s Club Championships title. He has been very clinical at Wimbledon, beating Pedro Martinez, Otto Virtanen, Alexander Bublik, and Roberto Bautista Agut to reach the quarterfinals.
