Andy Murray’s legacy at Wimbledon

The last few seasons haven’t been kind to Andy Murray, but that doesn’t diminish what he has given to British fans throughout his career. Tennis fans haven’t seen a modern-era British player who was as beloved as the three-time Grand Slam champion.

Murray’s first major breakthrough at Wimbledon came when he reached his first final in 2012. However, he suffered a crushing four-set defeat to Roger Federer, and the Scotsman couldn’t contain his emotions afterward.

What followed was nothing short of a resurgence. Just four weeks later, Murray defeated Novak Djokovic in the Olympic silver medal match to set up another clash with Federer, this time in the Olympic Gold medal match. On this occasion, Murray emerged victorious, winning 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 to claim his first Olympic Singles Gold Medal.

Twelve months later, Murray found himself in another Wimbledon final, this time facing Djokovic. With the entire nation behind him, Murray ended a 77-year wait for a British Wimbledon champion, defeating the Serbian in straight sets to secure his first Wimbledon title.

Three years later, Murray added another Wimbledon crown to his collection. He defeated Milos Raonic in straight sets to capture his third and most recent Grand Slam title.
