Iga Swiatek is only nineteen, but she is already a Grand Slam Champion. Swiatek won the French Open in 2020. She went into the tournament unseeded and virtually unknown but by the time the tournament finished, she was the Queen of Paris.
In a recent interview, she said that winning the French Open during the pandemic was a blessing for her. Addressing the media from the Adelaide International venue she claimed that the pandemic actually helped her cope with the media frenzy after her French Open win. She thinks it wasn’t until the quarantine at the Australian Open that she was able to chill and enjoy her win a little bit.
Iga Swiatek through to the Final of WTA Adelaide International

Swiatek has done brilliantly at the WTA Adelaide International event post the Australian Open. She has dominated play, been consistent and now finds herself in the Finals of the WTA event. She beat Jil Teichmann in the Semi-Finals and will take on the winner of Coco Gauff vs Belinda Bencic for the Adelaide International Trophy. If she wins this, it will be her second trophy on the tour. Her one and only trophy so far has been the French Open.
Swiatek said her initial plans were to play till the Dubai Open and then head home. And right now, the plan is the same. She said that she is not feeling exhausted. Is feeling kind of good, and would love to be on the tour for a long time to see how she deals with fatigue and exhaustion.
“In the beginning we wanted me to be on tour until the end of Dubai (March 7-13), so we’re going to stick to that plan because actually I want to kind of learn how to be a few months on tour and how to handle all of that,” she said.
“So I’m not really keen about going home right now and I’m really happy that I’m not exhausted after a Grand Slam, because I feel I can like physically handle that until the end of Dubai. “ she continued.
