Winter Olympics: America’s hockey star Brianna Decker pens down emotional message as injury ends her journey

The USA women’s team’s star hockey player Brianna Decker’s journey at the 2022 Beijing Olympics ended too soon. Earlier, she was stretchered off the ice in the team’s opener on Thursday after breaking her ankle, according to the Associated Press.

Notably, the Americans, who are looking to defend their gold medal, played their first game without her on Saturday, a 5-0 win over Russia. Decker’s injury leaves a void at the centre on the Team USA’s top line, which first-time Olympian Abby Roque filled between Alex Carpenter and Amanda Kessel.

Following this, Decker received tons of heartfelt messages and wishes for her speedy recovery. The Wisconsin native was quick to acknowledge them and took to social media to thank her supporters with an emotional message.

She wrote:

“I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has reached out to me over the last few days. The outreach has been more than incredible and I am truly thankful for each and every text, email, tweet, DM and phone call. I wish I could answer each and every one of you individually and hope to one day soon. I appreciate all the words of encouragement and support – I truly do.

“I would like everyone to know that I am in good hands and have an incredible staff that is taking great care of me. Being surrounded by my sisters is exactly where I want and need to be and know that the road to recovery has already begun due to their friendship and the significant love we share as a team. I am excited to remain here with the team and help in any imaginable way to help accomplish the original goal that we have set out to achieve!
