In Short
  • Marcus Spears suggests the Pittsburgh Steelers should draft quarterback Ty Simpson regardless of Aaron Rodgers' decision.
  • Aaron Rodgers has not confirmed whether he will return to the Steelers for the upcoming season.
  • Colin Cowherd advocates for the Steelers to offer Rodgers a significant pay raise, citing his impact on the team's performance.

Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers came short last season, any football fan with a pinch of analytical judgment would know that the Aaron Rodgers-led squad has it in them to go the distance. Not only did the 42-year-old show glimpses of what he can do despite his recent Achilles tear and all the struggles he faced with the New York Jets, but the rest of the team also had some bite in them.

Admittedly, the over-reliance on veteran defenders did come back to bite them. That is why they are taking a slightly different approach to the offseason this year, with the focus on finding a balance between experience and youth.

With Mike Tomlin gone, the hope is that new head coach Mike McCarthy can use his experience molding quarterbacks to get the best out of his former understudy.

However, even though the latter is in constant contact with Aaron Rodgers, the veteran QB has not given a clear indication whether he will return to the Steelers.

There are reports that the four-time league MVP will come back, but some, such as Marcus Spears, believe that the franchise should prepare for the future.

There’s a lot of glaring issues in Pittsburgh. But the one glaring issue that you cannot win without in this league is high-level quarterback play.

Marcus Spears said on NFL Live

When he finished his analogy, host Hannah Storm asked again if Spears was suggesting that the Steelers draft Ty Simpson. To this, he agreed, stating that the organization needs to stop leaving everything in the hands of Aaron Rodgers and pick someone whom they can build around.

Peter Schrager believes Ty Simpson may not interest Steelers

Marcus Spears has a point. Even if Aaron Rodgers returns, it is highly unlikely that he will continue to play football beyond this season. The oldest player in the league has started to enjoy his private life and knows being in the NFL will continue to disturb it.

The Steelers probably know this and might listen to Marcus Spears’ suggestion and draft Ty Simpson. However, Peter Schrager is not sure teams are that interested in the Alabama QB.

Until I have a team that tells me, ‘We love Ty Simpson’ or ‘We’re going to take Ty Simpson,’ it doesn’t do anyone any good just throwing him in there.

Peter Schrager said

The former Good Morning Football analyst reiterated to the cast of The Pat McAfee Show that he has not heard much about Simpson from NFL executives.

That means that even though his colleague has been doing his best to promote his fellow CAA client, Schrager has not heard enough to believe that Ty Simpson will go in the first round. Therefore, it is unlikely that the Steelers are interested in him.

Colin Cowherd believes Steelers should pay Aaron Rodgers $30 million

While Ty Simpson may or may not become a Pittsburgh Steeler, Aaron Rodgers could definitely continue his journey wearing the iconic black, yellow, and white.

However, he wants a significant pay raise over the $14.15 million he earned last year. Colin Cowherd agrees, as he believes the Super Bowl champion QB deserves a raise.

He did Pittsburgh a solid… I’m totally team Aaron here… You’ve got to be fair, Aaron deserves closer to $30 million.

Colin Cowherd said

The veteran analyst pointed out how Rodgers elevated the Steelers’ offense from a confused act at the start of the season to later, where they were playing with ease.

Now that he will be asked to play through another system, Cowherd wants the Steelers to relent and pay the Chino, California native what he believes he deserves.
