Fans began to question the Dallas Cowboys’ preparations for this season during the offseason, and after Dak Prescott sustained a season-ending injury, their hopes were dashed. However, with a two-game winning streak, star linebacker Micah Parsons has faith in the team, believing they can still save the 5-7 season.

Not only the All-Pro linebacker believes the season can be saved, but he insists on keeping the same roster and coaching staff for next season. In an interview with ESPN, Parsons blamed the injuries for the demise of their 2024 campaign and advocated for a fair chance for everyone next season.

I would like a fair shot with everyone back– players, coaches — because the injuries kind of struck of what this season could really be. In terms of coaching, man, Coach Mike, me and his relationship has always been really good. He always took real good care of me. I just don’t know how the business side of it’s going to go, you know?

While supporting McCarthy for another season, Parsons acknowledged that the ultimate control rests with General Manager and owner, Jerry Jones, who has the final say in the team’s decisions. Besides him, quarterback Prescott has also voiced his support for head coach McCarthy, expressing his desire for him to return next season.

Micah Parsons prioritizes team foundations over highest-paid status

While McCarthy is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys, the three-time Pro Bowler has no urgency regarding his contract at present. He is signed through the 2025 season after the franchise evoked the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. Given that the negotiations are in practice, Parsons isn’t too worried about whether the Cowboys would extend him.

I’m Jerry’s guy. We talk about it and how much we appreciate each side, but I know numbers talk. At the end of the day whatever it takes for me just to continue to be a Cowboy until I retire, that’s what I want. And I know it’s going to be hard conversations and reality checks, but I think I’m a good enough caliber to be here.

The two-time All-Pro also claimed that getting the highest-paid contract does not matter to him as much as he wants the team to have a strong foundation of players. Instead of prioritizing his individual project of negotiating a ‘highest-paid’ deal, he wants the Cowboys to have more weapons as that’s more intimidating.
