The Indian Cricket Team is under tremendous pressure after their string of poor results in Test cricket. India were whitewashed 3-0 in the home Test series against New Zealand, which served as their first Test series defeat at home since 2012 and the first Test series whitewash at home.
They were beaten 3-1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Most of the players in the team did not perform in the five-match Test series, which has attracted the attention of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI).
The BCCI held a meeting with the child selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. There have been some stringent measures taken after the recent run of results.
Reports have revealed that BCCI will not allow the wives of the Indian cricketers to stay with them for the entire tour. Their family will be allowed to stay for a maximum of two weeks on a 45-day tour. Moreover, every Indian cricketer needs to travel in the team bus, and they will not be allowed to travel separately.
Players have also been asked to play in domestic cricket whenever they are available. There have been strict guidelines set, and every player of the national team will need to give importance to domestic cricket.
Variable pay structures for players have also been discussed in the BCCI meeting
Indian Express has reported that the BCCI has decided to include a variable pay structure for the Indian cricketers after their recent performance in the BGT 2024/25. The salaries of the players who perform poorly will be reduced, and those who put on great performances will also get an incentive. It is to make sure that the players are held ‘accountable’ for their performances.
India failed to qualify for the WTC final for the third consecutive time after losing the BGT. Australia will face off against South Africa in the WTC 2025 final at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. India will next be part of the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025 before moving to England for a five-match Test series.
