Things seemed to be turning around for Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky after a bad start to 2025. The team had rallied with a few wins in late June as the second year player won Player of the Week honors. But this run was cut short as the young, inexperienced team dropped two more games in losses this week. Chicago lost 80-75 to the Minnesota Lynx on July 6 before another close loss to the Mystics the next day.
Angel Reese has been building a good reputation of late for herself after all the positive vibes from the wins. People were starting to view her as her own player after having her name attached to Caitlin Clark previously. Her gesture of giving credit to her teammates for her own All-Star selection was really well received. She also got props for being able to fight back from a dip in productivity early on in the year.
However, she had undone a large part of this newly earned goodwill due to her antics in these past two days. On one hand, her steel and doggedness on the court are admirable for even neutral fans. However, the constant bickering with the referees – in an incident following the Sky’s loss to Minnesota, rubbed a few fans the wrong way. She has blown way past the line for acceptable behavior with her latest antic.
The Sky were tied 79-79 with the Washington Mystics with under 30 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. Angel Reese, for inexplicable reasons, smashed the clipboard out of an assistant coach’s hands while walking past her towards the bench. The rude behavior from the former LSU star was out of line and has been picked up by the WNBA community in a newly-obtained short clip from the game on Monday.

The exaggerated and violent nature of her indignant actions could have caused a real injury to her unsuspecting member of coaching staff. Although it is not clear whether the organization have internally decided to sanction her, she is fully worthy of another fine for this insolent behavior.
WNBA fans blast Angel Reese for her insolent actions towards her coach
Disrespect for referees and officials is one thing. Many players can lose their composure – often rightly – after feeling hard done by the officiating crew. This is a part and parcel of the game across levels, and can be justified in some ways. However, disrespecting a member of the coaching staff and turning violent towards them is a clear sign of an uncoachable player. There is no sport or level of sport where this should be tolerated.

WNBA fans echoed this sentiment and tried to put Angel Reese in her place for her actions, which are completely uncalled for and out of line:

The Chicago Sky front office would do well to suspend Angel Reese and set an example before the rest of the players. Their season is a lost cause at this point as they sit eight games below .500 less than halfway through. Culture is an important aspect that draws players to the team as a free agent. If Reese is allowed to get away with her insolence on this occasion, it would show that their front office is weak and can be swayed by popularity and jersey sales rather than by player conduct.
