Although the Chicago Sky started the season off badly, the team seems to be better off in recent weeks. They now possess a 5-11 record – not great, but definitely better than where they were headed earlier. A lot of the credit for their recent run has to be given to Angel Reese, who’s raised her level of play. The #7 pick has performed admirably in Chicago’s pair of wins against the Los Angeles Sparks in the past week.
Angel Reese had 18 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists against the Sparks on June 24th. She added four steals in the game to complement Kamilla Cardoso, who had a career high 27 points. With Cardoso missing the next game, against the Valkyries due to national team commitments, Reese had another big outing. She recorded 17 points and 18 rebounds, and despite the 83-78 loss, had a really good showing.
Angel Reese outdid herself in the Sky’s third game of the season against the Sparks. Despite the absence of Cardoso, Reese put the Sky on her back and had a WNBA record fourth straight game with 15+ rebounds. She put up 24 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, a steal and two blocks in the 92-85 win. Reese’s growth as a playmaker under Tyler Marsh has been commendable. She’s also been better of late at picking her scoring spots.
All of this has resulted in the WNBA handing her with a deserved accolade. The league announced Reese as the Player of the Week for the final week of play in June.

For once, Caitlin Clark fans didn’t ambush the hype moment for her foil and college arch rival. The responses to this were overwhelmingly positive as people took note of her stupendous run of late.
Angel gets 1/10 the publicity when she does good compare to bad https://t.co/5QFKWOpQW3

Ever since I said she might not be good offensively in the wnba and be a defensive specialist she switch positions and started looking like a point forward powerhouse 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Can’t do nothing but respect it https://t.co/Saj5p17K8F

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both have reason to show out at the WNBA All-Star Game
Caitlin Clark broke her own record for most WNBA All-Star Game votes ever in this past weekend. She was named as an All-Star Game captain after tallying nearly 1.3 million votes during the voting period. She will go up against impending MVP favorite and Unrivaled co-founder Napheesa Collier, who had 1.16 million votes of her own and was named as the second captain.

However, the WNBA’s voting results came in on Monday night and they presented a stark picture. Whereas Clark was ranked third by the WNBA media on the cumulative All-Star ballots, likely due to her injury troubles, she ended up a lowly ninth on the players’ voting list. Likewise, Angel Reese was shockingly 16th in standings among frontcourt players as voted on by her peers.
This development should lend a lot of fire for both of these young women who’ve taken the WNBA by storm. It seems that the old guard is not ready to acknowledge their excellence, and is resentful of the attention they brought to the league. The duo have an opportunity, just like in the 2024 All-Star Game, to show that they belong on the biggest stages and are ready to compete with their more experienced rivals.
