WNBA star Angel Reese has been involved in all sorts of headlines lately, from press-conference drama to making the front page covers for top brands. She continued this trend lately. Reese is once again a cover model, but this time she appears on the front page of NBA 2K26 rather than Vogue. This comes as a surprise to many involved in and around the sport.

Reese will be on the WNBA’s game cover, the league said on X. Before the game’s official release on September 9, fans can pre-order it with any of the covers. As for the NBA, the OKC Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made the cover for the Men’s standard edition of the game. Interestingly, it does not end here.

The New York Knicks’ legend, Carmelo Anthony, will be making the cover for the superstar edition of the game. All in all, Reese’s appearance on the WNBA edition has turned heads, with many questioning the decision-making process for this cover. Some also claimed that there were better players than Reese who could make the cover.

To be fair, Reese has quickly established herself at the next level in her second campaign with the Sky. She was chosen seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft and immediately became one of the best young players in the league. She led the league in rebounds as a rookie, was selected to the All-Rookie Team, and was selected as a WNBA All-Star in both of her first two seasons.

Even though the Sky is near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Reese is having a fantastic season. Her three-point percentage is 23.5%, her field goal percentage is 41.5%, and her PPG is 13.2 points per game. In addition, Reese holds the league record of 15 consecutive double-doubles and is the fastest WNBA player to earn 500 points and 500 rebounds.

Fans are not sold on Angel Reese making the cover of the NBA 2K26 WNBA edition

WNBA fans are left confused with Angel Reese making the cover of the NBA 2K 26 WNBA Edition ahead of the likes of Caitlin Clark, Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, etc. Many claimed that this is the league’s stunt to try and make Reese the ‘face of the NBA.’ On the other hand, Reese won’t be bothered by all the noise surrounding her.

However, fans were quick to take to various social media sites and apps to make their opinions heard on this matter. One fan wrote on X, “It’s so obvious you’re forcing her as the face of the league when there’s much better players out there,” while another fan wrote on X, “Am I getting f***ng Centel’d??????” Check out some of the fan reactions below:

Already known for her outspoken and aggressive personality on and off the court, the star is making a name for herself. Also, her influence at LSU is still recognizable as well. Reese became one of the most recognized figures in collegiate basketball after leading the Tigers to a historic 2023 NCAA national title. Now, with a WNBA cover pick under her belt, Reese is further enhancing both her brand and her skill set.

Angel Reese’s new signature shoe to be released soon

Just like her rival, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese has also made a huge impact on the WNBA ever since her rookie year. The star has her own podcast channel and has signed multiple sponsorships. A year prior, it was announced that Reese would be getting her signature shoe. Now, Reebok provided an update on the deal.

The Angel Reese 1 has been formally unveiled by Reebok. Reebok claims that this first “Diamond Dust” colorway honors the “grit and glam” of Reese’s play and the contributions she makes to the game. The low-cut style of the silhouette is reminiscent of the Engine A hoops shoe that Reese has been sporting for the past 12 months.

Notably, WNBA great Rebecca Lobo‘s Reebok Lobo was released in 1997, and with the debut of the Angel Reese 1, Reese represents the second WNBA athlete with the company to have a trademark shoe.
The “Diamond Dust” Angel Reese 1 will be available for purchase in 2026, according to Reebok, though the company has not yet disclosed a specific launch date.
