WNBA and Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has come across a lot of hate for her shooting inefficiency
Ever since coming into the WNBA, Angel Reese has become a headline act. Not only for her pre-game outfits and her social engagements but also because of her record-breaking plays. But off late, many fans have been calling her out for stat padding off of her own misses. That criticism brought out a sharp reply from the Chicago Sky rookie. But now someone has come in with facts to stop the hate.
The hate mostly came from a set of fans who are finding issues with the way Reese plays. WNBA legend and ESPN analyst Rebecca Lobo slammed that criticism on SportsCenter two days ago.
Some of her critics like to say, you know, ‘Well, she gets a lot of offensive rebounds off of her own misses.’ Well, our stats and information group looked that up. If you take away all of the offensive rebounds off her own misses, guess what? She’s still leading the league in offensive rebounds per game.Rebecca Lobo said
Lobo’s words have statistics to back her up. Reese’s 152 rebounds include 53 rebounds from her own misses. Even subtracting that still keeps her in the lead. So, the narrative is wrong that her stats are padded with rebounds from her own misses. Angel Reese is definitely struggling to score at her college level. In fact, her numbers are lower than many guards. But fans are using the opportunity to call her out.
But the Chicago Sky rookie has nothing but a blunt response to those criticisms, even indirectly suggesting that it is not easy. The WNBA is a physical league and requires a certain transition period and work put in to start playing the way they were expected to.
Angel Reese on pace to create another record
Rebecca Lobo continued to show with proof again why Angel Reese‘s exploits on the glass should be appreciated. She took to her official X account to reveal a graphic that suggests the Chicago Sky rookie is on pace to set a new record for rebounds per game.
But what stands out is that the last four record holders were within .2 rebounds of each other, with the highest among them being A’ja Wilson’s stat this season. The admirable part is that the former LSU star is outrebounding them by more than 1 per game. Pretty remarkable considering all the other four are former WNBA MVPs.
It might indicate that the rookie could contend for that award in the future. If she fixes her shooting issues, it won’t be long before she regularly places her hat in that ring. Angel Reese could be on the verge of starting a Hall of Fame career.
