“NEVER leave a marine behind,” Elon Musk condemns Joe Biden’s administration for only securing Brittney Griner from Russia
Brittney Griner, Elon Musk, Joe Biden
Elon Musk expressed his thoughts on the prisoner swap President Joe Biden agreed to with Russia in exchange for the release of American basketball star Brittney Griner on Twitter on Friday morning. The unsatisfactory outcome for former US marine Paul Whelan, who is still detained in Russia, has drawn much criticism. Regarding Whelan’s exile in Russia, the new CEO of Twitter just posted a serious reminder on Twitter.
Griner has spent the last ten months in custody after cannabis oil was found in her luggage at a Moscow airport in February. In a high-profile prisoner exchange on Thursday, the American basketball player was released in exchange for the Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. Paul Whelan, an American who served in the Iraq War and has been detained in Russia since 2018, was noticeably left out of the agreement.
Joe Biden pledged to keep working to bring the former Marine home and stressed that he has not forgotten about Whelan, who has been held captive in a Russian penitentiary for the last four years on fraudulent conspiracy charges, according to US officials. Elon Musk, however, just provided his broad approach to the entire Griner prisoner exchange issue.
The Twitter CEO responded with a desolate post denouncing the Biden administration’s decisions. On Twitter, he wrote: “Never leave a marine behind. Never.” The Biden Administration’s choice to accept the one-for-one swap deal appeared to have enraged Musk. Whelan spends close to four years imprisoned in the IK-17 penal camp as the consequence.
Brittney Griner’s WNBA career prior to her detention
Brittney Griner graduated from Baylor University in 2012, where she won the Player of the Year Award and an NCAA championship. The Phoenix Mercury selected Griner in the first round of the 2013 WNBA Draft, and she then joined the league. The 32-year-old was ranked among the top 25 WNBA players in league history in 2021. She is regarded as one of the best defensive players in league history as well.
In 2013, she joined the US national basketball team and commenced her international career. Since then, she has earned a WNBA championship, two Olympic gold medals, numerous All-Star and All-NBA selections, and many other accolades. She gained considerable prominence for being the first athlete who identified as homosexual to obtain a big contract with Nike.

Joe Biden still has Paul Whelan in his plans unlike Elon Musk thinks
After Griner was released, American prisoner Paul Whelan expressed his disappointment that further had not been done to negotiate his liberation during an exclusive CNN interview. He stated: “I am greatly disappointed that more has not been done to secure my release, especially as the four-year anniversary of my arrest is coming up. I was arrested for a crime that never occurred. I don’t understand why I’m still sitting here.”
The POTUS Biden issued a statement from the White House saying: “We never forgot about Brittney, and we’ve not forgotten about Paul, who has been unjustly detained in Russia for years.
“Sadly, for totally illegitimate reasons, Russia is treating Paul’s case differently than Brittney’s, and while we have not yet succeeded in securing Paul’s release we are not giving up.”
