WNBA Twitter handle snubs Caitlin Clark’s birthday, fans call out favoritism: “The woke mind virus”
The WNBA was called out by fans for not posting about Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark's 23rd birthday on their official social media.
Caitlin Clark's birthday was not celebrated by the WNBA
The WNBA had one of its best seasons after Caitlin Clark was drafted by the Indiana Fever. The league’s viewership skyrocketed in the 2024 season, and a lot of it was due to the first overall pick. But Clark did not always get the credit for her impact. The issue continues to persist as the league did not wish their most influential player on her 23rd birthday yesterday.
It is a tradition in both the NBA and WNBA to post a birthday wish for the players on the league’s official Twitter handles. As Caitlin Clark‘s birthday was on 22nd January fans noticed that the WNBA did not acknowledge the star’s birthday. The account has previously posted for the birthdays of LV Aces A’Ja Wilson and Clark’s batchmate Angel Reese. The league was accused of favoritism for not celebrating Clark’s special day.
Racism has become a sensitive topic surrounding Clark. Fingers were pointed at Clark for receiving different treatment than the other WNBA players for being ‘white and straight‘. But now, Clark’s fans are fighting back and blaming the league for the mistreatment of their favorite player. A user on Twitter pointed out the league’s ‘agenda’ regarding Clark.
The WNBA wished A’ja Wilson and Angel Reese happy birthday. It is after 4pm central time and no happy birthday for Caitlin Clark yet. Anyone who says there isn’t an agenda in the league is either willfully blind, or racist. pic.twitter.com/v0tI055gfR

Clark, however, seems unbothered by the controversy as the athlete celebrated her birthday in style. The recently turned 23-year-old was showered with love by her boyfriend as well as her team. Despite the WNBA missing Clark’s birthday, the Fever’s Twitter handle was active the whole day. The social media team asked fans to send videos wishing their main player and even posted them. The coaches and front office also celebrated Clark’s 23rd in the locker room.
Fans called out the WNBA for not posting about Caitlin Clark’s birthday
Caitlin Clark’s arrival has benefitted the WNBA on a large scale. The league saw some huge changes last season including better treatment of other players, increased viewership, and added opportunities. Not so long ago, the Minnesota Lynx excluded Indiana from their season tickets due to the large audience of Fever. Despite all of this, the league refuses to promote Clark.
Fans have been frustrated by the WNBA’s ignorance towards Clark for a long time. Hence, the ignorance on her special day resulted in fans calling out the WNBA. Here’s what fans from Twitter had to say.
Oh, it is politics and race. The woke mind virus.

They did for AR and A'ja but not for Caitlin. They don't even try to hide their resentment.

Clark is gearing up for next season after playing an amazing, record-breaking first year. The guard continues to perfect her craft in Indianapolis as she was spotted working out in the gym. Clark even got some shots up on her birthday at the Fever facility.
