Long-planned title match no longer happening at this year’s SummerSlam: Reports
This year's SummerSlam will emanate from the Cleveland Browns Stadium.

In less than three weeks, WWE stops by Cleveland for SummerSlam. There’s a number of star-studded matchups in the pipeline waiting to be made official for the PLE. However, a previously planned title bout is in jeopardy of being truncated from the Biggest Party of the Summer.
Per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre are due to defend their Women’s Tag Team gold soon. But not at SummerSlam. Instead, the match is likely to end up being preponed by a night. Having said that, the yet-to-be-announced showdown is expected to happen on SmackDown before SummerSlam. There’s no word on which teams will be a part of it.
A couple of weeks ago on Raw, Fyre and Dawn ousted Kayden Carter and Katana Chance in a non-title match. However, their ecstasy was halted by a sudden onslaught, courtesy of The Damage CTRL. The Iyo Sky-led faction ran down that aisle to take out the tag champs as well as Carter and Chance.
With that being said, Damage CTRL might be one of the teams, if not the only one, to assert their claim for the gold. At the moment, there’s seven matches in total looking set to end up happening at the August-bound PLE. Cody Rhodes and Damian Priest defend their respective world titles against Solo Sikoa and Gunther.
As for the women, Liv Morgan and Bayley seem pegged for title defenses against Rhea Ripley and Nia Jax, respectively. Logan Paul is also expected to grant a title shot to LA Knight. A triple-threat match for the IC title featuring Sami Zayn, Bron Breakker, and Ilja Dragunov is also expected. Last but not least, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre might finally get to wrestle one-on-one.
What’s Seth Rollins’ role in rumored Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk match at SummerSlam?
There’s been enough murmur surrounding CM Punk‘s physical well-being of late. Even though he’s been involved in multiple angles post WrestleMania XL, one couldn’t say for sure that he’s completely healed up after tearing his triceps earlier this year at the Royal Rumble.
But as of last week, he’s expected to face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. This week on Raw, The Scottish Warrior will apparently hear it out from general manager Adam Pearce as to what he has decided following Drew’s emotional outburst at Money in the Bank.
A recent report from WON also suggests that Seth Rollins is expected to be involved in some capacity with McIntyre and Punk. However, he’s not penciled in to be inserted into the highly anticipated showdown to make it a three-way.
