The world stands at India’s doors as the country is set to welcome the top women cricketers from around the globe for a month of grueling and exciting World Cup cricket. The ICC Women’s World Cup returns to India for the first time since 2013 and for the fourth time overall.
In practicality though India is co-hosting this World Cup game with Sri Lanka. However, one must note that Sri Lanka is only a venue for the matches played by the Sri Lankan team and the Pakistan team. Pakistan and India have entered into a cricketing contract recently, which states that both countries will only play against each other at neutral venues.
With Sri Lanka being an accessible option, it was selected. The Indian women, who have been mighty close at times but are still to lay their hands on an ICC silverware, will see this as a golden opportunity for them to prevail as world champions.
They had a tough series against the unparalleled World Cup winners, Australia, at home recently which they lost 2-1 in an extremely high scoring decider. They would like to take the positives of giving a tough fight right through the series as they step into the World Cup.
ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup: India’s Schedule
India will begin their World Cup campaign against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Guwahati. This will be the only match Sri Lanka would play in India right throughout the World Cup. Next, India would play archrivals Pakistan in Sri Lanka. India would then play South Africa before coming up against the defending champions Australia.
That for sure will be a marked game for India, as doing well against Australia will give them great confidence. India would then play England and New Zealand in back-to-back contests before wrapping up their group stage against Bangladesh. India’s schedule allows them to get into a rhythm against relatively weaker teams before they lock horns with dominant teams like Australia and England.
- 30 September: India vs Sri Lanka, Guwahati
- 5 October: India vs Pakistan, Colombo
- 9 October: India vs South Africa, Visakhapatnam
- 12 October: India vs Australia, Visakhapatnam
- 19 October: India vs England, Indore
- 23 October: India vs New Zealand, Navi Mumbai
- 26 October: India vs Bangladesh, Navi Mumbai
