Woody Johnson Feels He’s “Not” a Good Owner Amid Jets’ Ongoing Super Bowl Drought
The Jets have the fourth worst win percentage in the NFL under Woody Johnson's reign as the owner.

Woody Johnson appointed Aaron Glenn to establish a culture in the New York Jets organization. However, the Jets remain the only winless team after seven weeks of football in 2025 with a 0-7 record.
The Justin Fields gamble has yet to bear any fruit. According to ESPN research, Fields has one of the longest release times in the league alongside Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward (who, by the way, is 1-6).
A frustrated Johnson called out Fields for taking a very long time to throw the ball and boasting a very low pass completion percentage.
It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got. He has the ability, but something is not driving him… You have to play consistently at that position… If we can just complete a pass, it would look good.
It’s a fact that Fields has not lived up to the lofty expectations, but an owner should refrain from publicly criticizing their own players, especially a struggling quarterback. This sent a wrong message among the Jets fans who were already reeling from frustration due to the team’s constant failures.
In the meantime, Johnson spoke with Dianna Russini of The Athletic and claimed that he is “obviously not a good owner in terms of winning.”
I think the players can relate to me in some ways, even though I don’t have their background. I have a certain amount of empathy, I think, that they can feel. I can’t be them. I don’t have their background. I didn’t grow up in their neighborhood. There’s no way I can completely understand what they went through and their life. But I think they know that I’m an understanding person. I’m willing to listen to anybody to tell me anything they want to tell me. I’m willing to listen to their ideas, too.

"So I asked him: What, in your mind, makes you a good owner?
“Well, I’m obviously not a good owner in terms of winning,” he said. “I think the players can relate to… https://t.co/7iSBpsfIu0
What is Woody Johnson’s record as the New York Jets owner?
Johnson took over as the owner of the Jets in January 2000. He has shuffled through nine head coaches since then (Glenn being the ninth).

According to StatMuse, the Jets hold the fourth-worst win record during that time, 173-238, or .421. The three teams boasting a worse record than the Jets are the Detroit Lions (.399), Las Vegas Raiders (.397), and Cleveland Browns (.344).
The Jets have only played postseason football on six occasions. Their last playoff appearance was back in the 2010 season. A 14-year playoff drought is tied for the 12th-longest streak of all-time.
What’s next for the Jets?
A winless start to the season isn’t ideal, but players should hold on to hope, no matter how small it is. The only way to revive the morale inside the locker room is by stringing a few wins.
To start the revival, they must defeat the Cincinnati Bengals. The AFC North franchise is among the select few teams that have a losing 11-18 record against the Jets.
However, the Bengals are the firm favorites to secure a fourth win of the season. Joe Flacco out-dueled Aaron Rodgers in the ‘Unc Bowl’ and earned the trust of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
This fixture will mark a reunion with his former team for Flacco. He spent three years as the Jets quarterback and still has a home in New York.
