The World Table Tennis Contender Budapest has shown quite the success for the Indian team with Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula making the quarterfinals in the women’s singles, and the duo of Batra and G Sathiyan making the semi-finals of the mixed doubles. The Indian pair of Manav Thakkar and Harmeet Desai also reached the semi finals of the tournaments.
Batra and Sathiyan would face off against Hungary’s Nandor Ecseki and Dora Madarasz in the semifinals after both the teams won hard fought quarterfinals. The Indian duo were at the top of their game, as they unleashed their forehand and backhand shots. They dominated and won 3-0 in straight sets of 11-6, 11-5, 11-4. They will now go on to face Kirill Skachkov and Olga Vorobeva of Russia in the finals.
The Indian men’s doubles pair of Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar ran out of luck, as they crashed out of the semifinals 1-3 to the Russian pair Vladimir Sidorenko and Kirill Skachkov 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6.

India’s Sreeja Akula is having a dream tournament, as the 153 seeded paddler took out the 53 ranked Barbora Balazova of Slovakia. Akula dominated right from the beginning as she won in straight sets 11-9, 11-8, 13-11 in straight sets.
Batra had a tough fight in the round of 16, Batra managed to seal the win the very last set, making her way to the quarterfinals of the World Table Tennis contender. The quarterfinals would see an all Indian face off, as the two paddlers would take on each other in a much anticipated and interesting match.
Ultimately experience reigned supreme, as Manika beat Sreeja 3-2 with the score of 7-11, 11-1 8-11 13-11 11-6
