In Short
  • Aaron Rodgers is reportedly considering a return to the Pittsburgh Steelers after a challenging stint with the New York Jets.
  • The Steelers ranked last in the NFLPA's players' report card, with poor facilities including only five bathroom stalls for the entire team.
  • The franchise also received the lowest rating for its home field, attributed to inadequate maintenance and excessive wear from hosting local games.

Aaron Rodgers is widely rumored to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers after the franchise gave him the platform to remind his critics that his time with the New York Jets was an anomaly.

No wonder he was thankful towards Mike Tomlin and the team’s top brass for not only giving him the space he desired before thinking about his future, but also waiting patiently for the QB to sign with them.

His gratitude left him emotional as he felt that if not for the Steelers, he would have likely ended his career with nothing but negativity surrounding him.

That is something coming from arguably the most ‘outspoken’ quarterback in the league, who never stops short when it comes to criticizing what needs to be called out.

Therefore, it is definitely a surprise that Aaron Rodgers did not speak publicly about the poor facilities at the Pittsburgh Steelers. As per the NFLPA’s latest players’ report card, the franchise ranks dead last.

The Steelers’ locker room was graded an F. Players reported that it ‘has only five bathroom stalls for the entire team.’

The ESPN senior writer revealed that Steelers’ owner Art Rooney II also ranks last in the survey, as his lack of investment in team facilities is why the franchise ranks so low across the board.

The survey also noted that the Steelers’ training room was not up to date with the technology available to other teams. TJ Watt‘s freak lung puncture happened in those facilities.

Aaron Rodgers and teammates play on ‘worst home field’

Even though the NFL managed to get an arbitrator to stop the NFLPA from publishing the players’ report card, Kalyn Kahler managed to get her hands on the ‘leaked’ survey.

In a new category added this year, the Steelers had the lowest-rated home field in the league, ‘by a wide margin.’ Players cite inadequate maintenance and excessive wear from hosting local college and high school games.

Kahler added that the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home field was ranked the worst, ‘by a wide margin.’ If anything, this is another indictment of Art Rooney II’s lack of investment in his team’s facilities.

Even though they have become a perennial playoff presence, the sheer lack of facilities should have irked the likes of Aaron Rodgers, who has played in better conditions.

However, it seems that the mantra, ‘winning cures everything,’ has been evident in Pennsylvania. As long as the team continued to win, not one of their players publicly talked about their struggles with the five bathroom stalls or the atrocious field conditions.

Steelers won’t have to wait long for Aaron Rodgers’ decision

Even though it is possible that owner Art Rooney II does not get fazed by this ‘survey,’ there is a possibility that Aaron Rodgers returns to play for one more year.

The 42-year-old knows that he is nothing more than a bridge quarterback, but understands that with former head coach Mike McCarthy at the helm, he has a good chance to possibly do better than last season.

I think the circumstances are a little different, but just conversations we’ve had, I don’t think either side wants to have this drag on like it did last year.

Steelers’ GM Omar Khan told NFL.com

This means the four-time league MVP might let the franchise know about his decision anytime soon. That, though, should not stop the Steelers from looking toward the future.

As per Omar Khan, the franchise is at the NFL combine to look for its future quarterback. That means that even if Aaron Rodgers does not return, the Steelers will have an alternative ready.
