Next month will mark the one-year anniversary of CM Punk‘s shocking return to WWE. At Survivor Series 2023, Punk appeared for the first time on WWE programming in almost a decade. Recently, The Second City Saint took to his Instagram account to share some exclusive behind-the-scenes photos of his night in Chicago.
Among these photos is him signing his WWE contract just hours before his comeback. Furthermore, Punk could be seen in a hoodie in another picture. With these ‘throwback’ images, he confirmed his recent revelation about the shocking moment. The Straight Edge Superstar appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and recounted the chaotic events leading up to the spectacular moment.
Punk shared how agents had hidden him before being brought to Gorilla position. In fact, he also divulged that he texted Stone Cold Steve Austin after spotting his image on a production truck. The former WWE Champion disclosed that he and Triple H got into a hilarious screaming match near the end of the event. Other than that, Bayley hugged him from behind as she was pleased to see her friend back in the Stamford-based promotion.
The self-proclaimed Best in the World had begun communicating for a potential return a week prior to Survivor Series. Although WWE President Nick Khan pitched for it to happen at the Royal Rumble, CM Punk was adamant about coming back in front of his home crowd. Hence, only a handful of people knew about it.

Needless to say, these photos made the rounds on social media. The majority of the fans were joyous at seeing the leadup to CM Punk’s shocking return. Moreover, users pleaded with WWE to release BTS footage of the chaotic night at the Allstate Arena.
Some fans mocked Tony Khan and AEW, posting hilarious memes about his potential reaction to the moment. Additionally, others lauded the secrecy of the comeback and hailed it as one of the greatest returns in WWE history.
Meanwhile, a few users suggested that Punk bring back his Survivor Series haircut. Regardless, The Second City Saint and fans have certainly enjoyed his second run in the company so far. Last week, CM Punk went through one of the most brutal encounters of his career as he defeated Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell.
