WWE has parted ways with many of its wrestlers in the past in highly controversial manners. This list includes The Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, CM Punk, and recently, Ronda Rousey. Being one of the most popular female athletes on the planet, her words were given a lot of weight. She made harassment allegations against ex-WWE star Drew Gulak, who recently turned them into a storyline angle.
At a recent Beyond event, Gulak was in the ring with Masha Slamovich. The 37-year-old cut a promo, asking if he had ever made the female talent uncomfortable during their time together in the promotion or if he was a danger in the locker room. She denied both these statements, and some fans began applauding.
Shockingly, Gulak told her that she should have felt endangered by him before kicking her in the stomach and hitting her with a body slam. These statements were, of course, a reference to the allegations made by Rousey. The 2022 Royal Rumble Winner claimed that he had pulled the strings of her sweatpants. No one in the hall seemed to bat an eye or stand up for her in any way.
Gulak had responded to these allegations, claiming that he only went to shake her hand backstage at a live event. He accidentally touched her drawstring, but things were blown out of proportion and misconstrued into something else entirely. Regardless, the NXT superstar was released from WWE just a few weeks later after these statements became public.

The wrestling world immediately began lambasting Drew Gulak for these actions. Despite insisting that the incident with Ronda Rousey was an accident, he showed little sign of remorse. A fan pointed out that guilty people often act disrespectful, bold in their actions, and brazen. His turning this into a storyline seems to suggest that he may have done it intentionally after all.
Some fans said that Drew Gulak was smudging the reputation of independent wrestling promotions. Things like these discourage mainstream wrestling fans from going to smaller shows and supporting their local talent. Even so, bigger indie promotions like RevPro or MLW do their best to stay away from such incidents.
While real-life incidents have been a part of wrestling storylines time and again, it is very tough to incorporate such incidents tastefully and respectfully. Besides, something as sensitive as this should never make its place in a wrestling ring in the first place. Fans were glad that Gulak was gone from NXT. Some netizens claimed that his former faction, No Quarter Catch Crew, was much better in his absence.
