Priya Malik wins gold medal at World Cadet Wrestling Championships; celebrities confuse it with Tokyo Olympics medal

Medals seem to be pouring for India on the sporting stage, as just a day after Mirabai Chanu scripted history at Tokyo Olympics, Priya Malik raised the nation’s tricolor in Budapest. Priya bagged the gold medal in the World Cadet Wrestling Championships on Sunday.
Malik has been a consistent performer in the past few years and won the gold medal in the 2019 edition of Khelo India which was held in Pune. Priya Malik defeated Belarusian, Kseniya Patapovich 5-0 in the Women’s 73kg weight category to bring home the title for India.
Wishes pour in for Priya Malik as celebrities goof up
The country came together to celebrate Priya’s win. Social media was flooded with best wishes for the young grappler. As the country was busy celebrating Indian sportsperson’s success over the last two days, some celebrities confused the World Cadet Championship gold medal for a Tokyo Olympic medal.
Many politicians along with actors and cricketers like Ishant Sharma and Hanuma Vihari took to Twitter to wish Priya Malik for bagging a gold medal at the Tokyo Games, while that was clearly not the case. Netizens were quick to point out the mistakes of the personalities as they rushed to delete their tweets and posts.
