Amanda Anisimova will take on Elena Rybakina on the opening day of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Anisimova will be entering the tournament on the back of a successful championship victory at the WTA 1000 tournament in China. The American star will be looking to continue with her excellent form at the tournament.

Rybakina was the last player to seal a place in the WTA Finals. A late surge since the North American hard-court swing saw the former Wimbledon champion earn her place at the tournament for the third consecutive year. With momentum on her side, she will hope to win her first season-ending title.

Amanda Anisimova vs. Elena Rybakina: Match Preview:

Amanda Anisimova has been by far one of the best players in the women’s circuit since the start of the Wimbledon Championship. Before that, she had only secured one title on tour and that came at the Qatar Open in February after defeating Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets. She reached back-to-back Grand Slam finals, first at Wimbledon and then at the US Open.

She lost both major tournaments’ finals, but the experience she gained by reaching that stage of the competition paid off at the China Open. In Beijing, she defeated two top 10 players en route to the final before overcoming Linda Noskova in three sets to claim her second WTA 1000 crown of the season.

On the other hand, Elena Rybakina began the year with coaching problems that forced Goran Ivanisevic to split with her just less than a month after their partnership. Her former coach Stefano Vukov was suspended by the WTA for breach of conduct. But after over five months, he was reinstated as her coach after he appealed the suspension.

During the period of Rybakina’s coaching situation, she was playing poorly on the court until the Strasbourg Open, where she claimed her first title of the season. She then reached the semi-finals of the Citi Open, Canadian Open, and Cincinnati Open before claiming the Ningbo Open after beating Ekaterina Alexandrova in the final. She pulled out of the Tokyo Open, despite reaching the semi-finals of the event.

Amanda Anisimova vs. Elena Rybakina: Match Prediction

Amanda Anisimova will surely be seeking to prove that she’s among the top players in the women’s circuit. The World No.4 has beaten the likes of Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Iga Swiatek this season. In fact, she has shown that she can compete with the biggest stars on tour, but the WTA Finals is totally different.

Anisimova has an interesting raw power in her game and often seeks to use her powerful forehand shots and serves to break her opponents. But Elena Rybakina uses the same weapon against her opponents on the court. This will be their first meeting on the tour, which will give them a rare privilege to test their skills on the court.

Currently, Rybakina has the momentum on her side as she’s on a six-match winning streak and has played more matches recently. The last time Anisimova was on the court was early October. Also, Rybakina has had to deal with more pressure recently, particularly during the Ningbo and Tokyo Opens, where she had to win matches to qualify for the WTA Finals.

Match Prediction: Elena Rybakina to win in three sets.
