Sevastova the thirty year old from Latvia didn’t have the best of starts to the 2021 season. She was dumped out of the Australian Open in the very first round by Kaia Kanepi. But, she had a good run at the just concluded Miami Open where she reached the Quarter-final stage of the tournament.

She was lucky to get a walkover win over Simona Halep in the round of thirty-two but proved her mettle by beating the impressive Ana Konjuh in the round of sixteen. Sevastova will face the twenty year old Russian Anastasia Potapova in the first round.
