Vondrousova is just twenty one, but the ninth seed is already a runner- up at the French Open, in 2019. Apart from that she has reached the fourth round of two other majors, the US Open, in 2018, and the Australian Open this year. In the Australian Open 2021 she lost her fourth-round encounter to Hsieh Su-wei in straight sets.

In the recently concluded Miami Open she was beaten in the fourth round by Aryna Sabalenka. Vondrousova had a first round bye here, in the second round she will face Japanese qualifier Kurumi Nara. Nara was ranked as high as no.32 in the World, but now the twenty nine year old is ranked beyond the top hundred and feisty and hence has to get through the qualifiers to reach the main draw of most events.

Here she beat Whitley Pate in the first qualifier and Allie Kiick in the second qualifier. Her first-round opponent was Francesca Di Lorenzo, and she beat him 6-2 6-2.
