Paula Badosa vs Caty McNally: Preview

Paula Badosa
Paula Badosa

Badosa did not have a great hard-court season but she will be hoping for better returns from the clay courts. In the first round of the WTA Charleston she beat Varvara Gracheva in three sets, 3-6 7-5 6-1. In the second round she ousted the fifth seed Belinda Bencic in three sets, 6-2 6-7 6-1.

Although Bencic was not in the best of forms, a win against a top-10 player will give Badosa a lot of confidence. Her third round opponent is American teenager Caty McNally. McNally was leading the first set 6-4 when Elena Rybakina retired. In the second round she beat Anastasija Sevastova in three sets 7-6 2-6 6-4.

Paula Badosa vs Caty McNally: Prediction

Paula Badosa

Badosa plays her best tennis on clay, a fact confirmed by her fourth round appearance in the French Open in 2020. She game is looking good, and her serve especially is looking great.

McNally is best known for being the doubles partner of Coco Gauff but she is a good player and has given us ample proof of that. Badosa though should edge this contest.

Match Prediction: Paula Badosa to beat Caty McNally in three sets.
