Tereza Martincova comes through after defeating Hsieh Su-Wei 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in her Round of 16 match. After being completely run down with trickery by her opponent in the first set and a game down in the second, Martincova fought back bravely returning every drop and slice she was being thrown at by her opponent. Once she got the grip, she didn’t look back and eventually closed the match quite comfortably. Previously, she played the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters following up to this tournament performing satisfactorily at both. In her Round of 32 match, she beat the No.3 seed Sorana Cirstea, 3-6, 6-3,6-2.
Rebecca Peterson, the 26-year-old, caused an upset after she defeated the 8th seed Viktorija Golubic, 7-6, 6-3 in her previous round match. The match involved a lot of breakpoint exchanges, especially in the first set but the Swedish held her nerves at crucial moments and emerged victoriously. Previously, the Swedish displayed an excellent run at her home-based Swedish Open 2021, having reached the Semi-Final stages only to lose 3-6, 4-6 to Olga Govortsova. She also played the Cincinnati Masters where she was ousted 4-6, 1-6 in the Round of 64 by B Pera.
