Third seed Sabalenka has been one of the most impressive players on the Women’s circuit this season. She has won trophies, knocked the daylight out of opponents on her day, and generally taken rapid strides forward. But the twenty two year old has failed to deliver in the big games.

The fourth round encounter against Serena Williams in the Australian open or the round of 16 encounter against Garbine Muguruza in the Qatar Open. These are the games, while playing against Grand Slam winners that prove your mettle, and Sabalenka needs to do that. She had a bye in the first round, and disposed of French women Alize Cornet 6-2 6-4 in the second round. Not the most impressive Sabalenka performance but it got the job done.

Her third round opponent is Anett Kontaveit. Kontaveit was the joint-champion at the Grampians Trophy. Post that she reached the third round of the Australian Open. In the just concluded Qatar Open, she had a couple of good victories, first against Australian Open finalist Jennifer Brady and then former Grand Slam winner, Angelique Kerber. At the Dubai Open so far she has beaten Tímea Babos 6-2 6-1, and in the second round got the better off Sorana Cîrstea 6-4, 7-5.

Sabalenka plays an aggressive, all attacking brand of tennis that is aimed at basically outhitting her opponent. Her serve, her power, are almost unmatched in the women’s game. Kontaveit has improved a lot as a player in the last couple of years. She has worked especially hard on her serve. A good contest that Sabalenka should win.
