Muguruza has been in great form in the last couple of months. She was a finalist at the Yarra Valley classic, and then finalist again at the just concluded Qatar Open. In between, she reached the fourth round of the Australian Open 2021, where she was beaten by the eventual champion Naomi Osaka.

One thing that might worry Muguruza is the manner of her defeats in the Finals. The Qatar Open Final specially was a very one sided one, where she was dismantled by Petra Kvitova 6-2 6-1. Her first round opponent is Irina-Camelia Begu. Qualifier Begu has been in decent form herself. She reached the Quarter Finals of the Gippsland Trophy and the Phillips Island Trophy.
