Kvitova, seeded fourth at this year’s Dubai Open, is coming into this tournament on the back of a trophy win at the Qatar Open. Kvitova incidentally was the winner at this event way back in 2013, and the runner up in 2019. She will be looking to become only the third woman in history to win the two Middle Eastern trophies back to back.

Only Martina Hingis and Justine Henin have won the Qatar and Dubai Open back to back . Her second round opponent is fellow left hander Jil Teichmann. Teichmann has been in decent form in the last two tournaments post the Australian Open 2021.

She reached the Quarter Final of the Phillip Island Trophy and the Semi Finals of the Adelaide International. In the first round here at the Dubai Open she beat Katarina Zavatska of Ukraine 6-1 6-2.

Kvitova wasn’t playing her best tennis at the start of the Qatar Open, but as she made her way into the Finals she slowly but surely got close to her best. The final match against Garbine Muguruza was a one sided affair, where Kvitova demolished Muguruza 6-2 6-1.

She had a bye in the first round of the Dubai Open, and it will be interesting to see which version of Kvitova turns up for this second round encounter. Teichmann is no match for her if Kvitova is playing her best tennis. 

Match Prediction:  Petra Kvitova will beat Jil Teichmann in two sets.
