Simona Halep is a Romanian tennis star who is attempting to reclaim her place on the circuit. Due to injuries, the former world number one had a bad 2021 season, falling out of the top ten for the first time in years. She did, however, get off to a good start in 2022, winning the Melbourne Summer Set. She advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open, but was defeated in three sets by Alize Cornet, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6. She is expected to make a strong comeback at the 2022 Dubai Open, after having to withdraw due to a back injury last year.
Alison Riske is an American professional tennis player who won the Linz championship in 2021 after a stunning return from a foot injury last year. She didn’t have a good start to the season, losing in straight sets against Vera Zvonareva in Melbourne. The World No. 57 bounced back this week, reaching the last round in Adelaide although two of her victories were walkovers and retirement wins. Riske had a poor showing at the Australian Open, losing in three sets to Jelena Ostapenko in the first round. She is, however, predicted to do well in Dubai.
