Coco Gauff is in the best position she has ever been at the WTA Finals. The 20-year-old claimed a second consecutive victory at the tournament after beating Iga Swiatek in straight sets. The victory leaves her with six points and a sure place in the semifinals.

However, she will hope to maintain her unbeaten record at the event this year when she faces Barbora Krejcikova. The Czech player earned her first win at the WTA Finals on Tuesday (November 5), beating Jessica Pegula after losing to Swiatek in her opening match. She’s currently in pole position to qualify for the semifinals.

Coco Gauff earned her first title this year at the ASB Classic in January but failed to perform at her best for more than half of the season. In the North American hard court swing, she failed to live up to expectations and failed to defend both her Cincinnati Open and US Open titles.

Gauff found some form during the Asian swing. She ended her title drought at the China Open, beating Karolina Muchova in straight sets in the final. She then rode the momentum at the Wuhan Open, where she reached the semifinals before losing to Aryna Sabalenka.

The American opened her WTA Finals campaign with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pegula. On Tuesday (November 5), she earned her second career win over Swiatek.

On the other hand, Barbora Krejcikova’s season was plagued by injuries, which forced her to play less than 30 matches before the WTA Finals. She did, however, shock the tennis world at Wimbledon, where she beat Jasmine Paolini to clinch the title. She hasn’t reached any final since then.

The Wimbledon triumph helped her qualify for the season-ending tournament, thanks to a new WTA rule that favored Grand Slam winners between No. 9 and No. 20 positions in the WTA rankings. The 28-year-old lost her opening match against Swiatek but bounced back against Pegula, winning 6-3, 6-3.
