Iga Swiatek hasn’t been at her best at the WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia. The Polish star needed a deciding set to beat Barbora Krejcikova in her opening match. She then succumbed to a disappointing loss to Coco Gauff on Tuesday (November 5).

Now, she will face Jessica Pegula in the last match in the Orange Group. Pegula has failed to win a set since arriving in Riyadh. The American is set to exit the tournament after the round-robin stage but is seeking to leave with a victory over Swiatek.

Iga Swiatek vs. Jessica Pegula: Match Preview

Iga Swiatek was the best WTA player for the first half of the season, winning five titles in just six months. Surprisingly, her game decline began at the Paris Olympics, where she claimed the singles bronze medal after being the pole favorite to claim gold. Since August, the 23-year-old has failed to reach any tournament final.

Swiatek skipped the Asian swing just days after parting ways with her long-term coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and partnered with Wim Fissette. She arrived at the WTA Finals without a competitive match in two months.

The Pole somehow managed to beat Krejcikova 4–6, 7–5, 6–2 in her opening match. However, she then suffered a setback, losing 3-6, 4-6 to Coco Gauff in the second group stage match.

On the other hand, Jessica Pegula began the year poorly and suffered an injury that forced her to be away from the court for two months. Nonetheless, she returned during the grass season and claimed the Berlin Grass Court Championship.

The American then flourished during the North American hard court swing, winning the Canadian Open and finishing as the runner-up in Cincinnati and the US Open. She failed to keep up with the momentum at the Asian swing, exiting in the Round of 16 of the China Open and Wuhan.

Pegula’s declining form was obvious during her opening match against Gauff, which she lost in straight sets. She then failed to make amends against Krejcikova, losing 3-6, 3-6.

Iga Swiatek vs. Jessica Pegula: Match Prediction

Swiatek and Pegula are both on the same page in terms of form. However, the former has performed slightly better, while the latter has had one of the highest number of unforced errors in the tournament. They have faced each other ten times on the WTA Tour.

Swiatek leads 6-4 in their head-to-head record, though both players have won twice in their last four meetings. The last time they met was in the quarterfinals of the US Open, where Pegula emerged victorious in straight sets.

In Ruyash, Swiatek is the favorite to win. She is currently playing better than the American and should be able to seal victory.

Prediction: Iga Swiatek to win in three sets.
