The 2024 WTA Finals is drawing toward its end. Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Qinwen Zheng, and Barbora Krejcikova have secured themselves a berth in the semifinals. Defending champion Iga Swiatek however, bowed out of the tournament after Gauff’s defeat to Krejcikova in the last group-stage match of the event.
Both semifinals are scheduled to take place on Friday (November 8). Zheng will be locking horns with Krejcikova in the first semifinals, while Sabalenka will be facing Gauff for the ninth time in her career in the second semifinals.

Qinwen Zheng vs. Barbora Krejcikova: Match Preview
Qinwen Zheng is enjoying her best run this season. She not only reached her first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open but took home the gold medal at the Paris Olympics. The Chinese ace has also reached multiple finals on the WTA Tour and lifted two titles, the Palermo Ladies Open and the Japan Open.
Before arriving in Riyadh, Zheng won the Japan Open with a straight-set win over Sofia Kenin. She kickstarted her WTA Finals campaign with a defeat to Aryna Sabalenka but overcame Elena Rybakina in the second match before outclassing Jasmine Paolini to progress to her first semifinal in the year-end event.
Barbora Krejcikova on the other hand, has lifted one title this season. She defeated Jasmine Paolini in the Wimbledon final to clinch her first title at SW19. The World No.13 played the Ningbo Open before landing in Riyadh. After her fourth-round match, she gave a walkover to Mirra Andreeva.
She started her run at the WTA Finals with a three-set defeat to Iga Swiatek. But after beating Jessica Pegula, her fate depended on the match against Coco Gauff, which she won and ended up topping her group.
Qinwen Zheng vs. Barbora Krejcikova: Match Prediction
Barbora Krejcikova has met Qinwen Zheng just once. They squared off against each other in the final of the 2023 Zhengzhou Open which the World No. 7 won in three sets.
Although Zheng has been playing impressive tennis on the hard courts since the Asian swing (for she reached the finals at the Wuhan Open and Japan Open), it’s difficult to write off Krejcikova, who gave a hard time to top players during crucial matches and even defeated them.
