No player other than Aryna Sabalenka has tasted more success this season on the WTA tour. And she now wants to continue her winning ways at the WTA Finals as well.
But up against her is a tricky opponent in the form of Amanda Anisimova, who is the only player in the draw to qualify for the year-end championship for the first time this season. They will walk onto the center court following the first semifinal between Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina.
Sabalenka and Rybakina are the only players from Group Steffi Graf and Serena Williams yet to lose a round-robin match. If one of them ends up winning the tournament, they will gain 1,500 ranking points as well as $5,235,000 in prize money.
Last year’s champion, Coco Gauff, has crashed out because of her defeat to Sabalenka in her last round robin match. In her first match, she suffered defeat at the hands of Pegula.
Gauff and Iga Swiatek were the only players in the draw to have won a WTA Finals title. The Pole clinched it in 2023 by defeating Pegula, while last year, Gauff went past Paris Olympics champion Qinwen Zheng, who failed amidst her struggles with fitness problems.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Preview
Amanda Anisimova has been enjoying nothing but good form since the start of the season. Her first title came at the Qatar Open against Jelena Ostapenko, also her career’s first WTA 1000 title. The American ace then reached her career’s first grass-court final at the Queen’s Club Championships, but Tatjana Maria denied her the title.

The next defeat that she suffered was against Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final. It was an embarrassing defeat, given that she lost it 6-0, 6-0.
Although she got her revenge by knocking out the six-time Grand Slam champion in the US Open quarterfinal, she failed to go past Aryna Sabalenka in the championship clash. The two-time Grand Slam runner-up, however, was successful in winning her career’s second WTA 1000 title at the China Open against Linda Noskova.
Sabalenka is the winner of four titles from eight finals in 2025 so far. After defeating Polina Kudermetova in the Brisbane International final, Sabalenka was denied an Australian Open three-peat by Madison Keys. Her Indian Wells campaign also ended with disappointment because of her defeat to Mirra Andreeva in the final.
But in the Miami Open, the four-time Grand Slam champion was successful in winning her career’s first Sunshine Doubles title, beating home favorite Pegula. Then Ostapenko beat her in the Stuttgart Open final, but Sabalenka was successful in clinching the Madrid Open against Gauff.
It was the two-time singles Grand Slam champion who stopped Sabalenka from winning the French Open, beating her in the final in three sets. Following two Grand Slam defeats, Sabalenka ensured that she didn’t end the season without a Major title to her name, defeating Anisimova in the US Open final.
Aryna Sabalenka vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Prediction
While Anisimova is playing the WTA Finals for the first time, Sabalenka has made her fifth consecutive appearance in the event. She was the finalist in 2022, losing to Caroline Garcia. En route to the semifinals, Sabalenka beat Gauff, Pegula, and Paolini, while Anisimova beat Swiatek and Keys but lost to Rybakina.

Anisimova holds a 6-4 head-to-head lead over Sabalenka. This year, they have matched up thrice: Sabalenka won their Roland Garros fourth round match, while Anisimova knocked her out of the Wimbledon semifinal, before losing to her in the US Open final.
Match prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
