Madison Keys vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Preview

Amanda Anisimova, in fact, has made her debut in the year-end championships. She qualified because of her five final appearances and two victories. She emerged victorious for the first time in a WTA 1000 tournament after defeating Jelena Ostapenko in the Qatar Open final. Next, she suffered defeat at the hands of Tatjana Maria at the Queen’s Club Championships.

Anisimova then played the biggest match of her career- the final at Wimbledon. But the pressure completely froze her, and she ended up scripting an unwanted record. She lost the final to Iga Swiatek 6-0,6-0.

The 24-year-old got another opportunity to become a Grand Slam champion when she reached the final of the US Open. This time, Aryna Sabalenka denied her the win and defended her title.

But despite these two disappointments, Anisimova kept fighting, and finally it paid off when she defeated Linda Noskova in the China Open final to clinch her career’s second WTA 1000 title.

Madison Keys won just two titles. But one of the titles was the Australian Open. The 30-year-old denied Sabalenka a three-peat in the Melbourne Slam, but before that, she went past Jessica Pegula in the Adelaide International final.

Keys and Anisimova are the only players in Group Serena Williams yet to clinch a win. Swiatek secured a 6-1, 6-2 win over Keys to improve her head-to-head record to 6-2, while Elena Rybakina beat Anisimova 6–3, 6–1 to take a 1-0 head-to-head lead. After this match, Keys will lock horns with Rybakina, while Anisimova will meet Swiatek.

Madison Keys vs. Amanda Anisimova: Match Prediction

The Australian Open title was Keys’ second Big Title of her career, following the 2019 Cincinnati Open. This year, apart from the Australian Open and the Adelaide International, Keys did not make another final. Keys made her WTA Finals debut in 2016, and in 2022, she was an alternate.

Keys will be locking horns with Anisimova for the first time in her career. The latter will have a slight edge because she has played more finals than Keys this year and has been enjoying good form in the past few months.

The WTA Finals, in fact, is Key’s first tournament since the US Open. After suffering a first-round exit in New York, the reigning Australian Open champion withdrew from the entire Asian swing because of injury problems.

Match prediction: Amanda Anisimova to win in three sets.
