Ekaterina Alexandrova has started the clay court leg of the year decently. In her first tournament on clay, the Stuttgart Open, she made it to the Quarter-finals of the event. Eventually getting ousted by Simona Halep. In her second tournament on clay, the Madrid Open, she was unlucky to come up against Victoria Azarenka in the very first round, but she went down fighting in three sets. In the first round in Rome, she defeated Marta Kostyuk in straight sets, 6-3 6-1.

Her second round opponent is Jennifer Brady. Brady shot to fame by reaching the Finals of the Australian Open at the start of the year. Her game is not suited for clay, but she is trying to make it work. At Madrid she made it to the Round of sixteen before falling to the eventual Semi-finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. In the first round she overcame Chinese player Zhang Shuai 6-1 6-4.
